For rather obvious reasons, during autumn most people turn their attention to deciduous trees, while coniferous trees get the short end of the stick. (I realize that I am seriously anthropomorphizing here; I doubt the trees care. But you know what I mean. :) )
Anyway, the pine and fir trees may not change pretty colors, but their consistent green does help contrast the yellows, oranges and reds of the hardwood leaves, as you can see here.
