At 3,848 feet, Mount Equinox is the highest peak in the Taconic Range, which runs roughly along the border between Vermont and New York. The mountain overlooks the Manchester area, and has a paved toll road that goes right up to the summit.
Looking north from the top of the mountain, you can see dozens of peaks in the Taconics (foreground and left) and Green Mountains (background). From this distance, lit up by the golden late afternoon sun, the colorful trees on the mountainsides blend to form a curving sea of yellow and orange.
