This image is a closeup of the Main Terrace at Mammoth Hot Springs (see previous image for a wider view.) You can see the beautiful, delicate layers of travertine that form along the terraces.

When I saw this it reminded me somewhat of the sides of a very decorative cake. Except for it being full of steaming hot water, of course; and, well, it smells pretty rank too. :)
