Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I have included here the most common questions that I anticipate will be asked about DesktopScenes.com and the various SceneSets, so you can get answers quickly and easily. The FAQ has been divided into sections to make it easier to find the answer you need. If after reading this FAQ you have a questions that was not answered, please feel free to contact me.

General Questions

I want to order Desktop Scenes right now -- what should I do? First, check to make sure your PC meets the system requirements for using the SceneSets. Most modern PCs will run the SceneSets just fine, so just go to the Buy SceneSets page to see the SceneSets and follow the ordering instructions there.

What are Desktop SceneSets? The SceneSets are collections of high-quality photographs packaged into software that allows them to be viewed on your PC desktop as a screensaver or slideshow. Each SceneSet contains dozens of beautiful photos, allowing you to take a "virtual vacation" any time.

What Desktop SceneSets are available? Please see the Buy SceneSets page to see the SceneSets.

Can I try out the SceneSets before I order? I don't offer the SceneSets for preview, but you can view the entire contents of the SceneSets online, for free. This way you can see if you like the images before you order.

What are the system requirements for using Desktop SceneSets? You must have an IBM-compatible computer running Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP. Windows 95 and NT are not supported. I recommend a fairly modern PC (500 MHz or faster) for best performance. For highest quality, your monitor should support 1024x768 resolution or above in full (32-bit) color. Please see the system requirements page for more details.

What are the most important features of the Desktop SceneSets? Please see the Features page, or try the SceneSets out for yourself by downloading a Free SceneSet.

How are Desktop SceneSets distributed? They are distributed only in electronic form as a Windows executable file that you download to your computer.

Are Desktop SceneSets available on CD? Not at this time. I may in the future create a CD containing a collection of SceneSets (is this something you would be interested in?)

How large are the Desktop SceneSets? They vary in size depending on the screen resolution and the number of photos each contains. At the present time they range from about 5 MB to 22 MB.

Pricing and Licensing

What is the cost of the Desktop SceneSets? The cost of each SceneSet is shown on the Buy SceneSets page. All are under $10, just a few cents per image for lifetime use.

What are the terms of sale of the Desktop SceneSets? Each SceneSet is licensed only according to the terms and conditions of the DesktopScenes.com License Agreement. This agreement specifies clearly what you may and may not do with the SceneSets and the images they contain.

If I want to use the Desktop SceneSets on my PCs at home and at work, do I need two licenses? No need; you may install each licensed SceneSet on both a home and work machine as long as only one is in use at a time and you are the primary user of each.

Why does each SceneSet have a version number and date? In general, I do not plan to change SceneSets once they are published. However, on occasion, it is possible that I may discover an editing mistake in a photo, or the software used to create the SceneSets may have significant new features added. In this case, I will create a new version of those SceneSets and change the version number and date.

If I license a SceneSet, do I have to pay again if the SceneSet is upgraded? No, upgrades are free, and can be obtained using the same download instructions you receive when you initially ordered your SceneSets.

Can the Desktop Scenes be used for business purposes? SceneSets may be installed by the licensee on a single personal computer of which he or she is the primary user, at a place of business. No other business or commercial use -- such as installing the SceneSets on a shared server or using the images for any purpose other than viewing on a single PC -- is permitted without prior written permission. Can I obtain a site license to use Desktop Scenes? This can be negotiated. Please contact me for more information.

Payment and Order Process

How do I order Desktop SceneSets? After ensuring that your computer meets the system requirements, please follow the instructions on the View/Buy SceneSets page.
What forms of payment are accepted ? Payment for SceneSets is handled through PayPal, the most widely-used online payment service. You can pay using an existing PayPal account, or by credit card if you do not have an account.
Do you accept checks, purchase orders, bank transfers or other forms of payment? Not at this time. Please let me know if this is a problem for you.
What happens after I order? You will be automatically sent a receipt from PayPal and an e-mail from DesktopScenes.com with instructions for downloading the SceneSets you have licensed. Please allow an hour for this e-mail to be received. If you don't see it within an hour, please contact me.
