All of my life I have heard people sing the praises of Yosemite National Park. It's hard not to be interested in a place when so many who visit come away thinking they have been to the most beautiful locations on the planet. My trip to the San Francisco area in September 2003 presented me with a dilemma. As someone who loves national parks and was getting serious about landscape photography, the lure of Yosemite, only a few hours away, was hard to resist. The problem was that I really didn't have time for the several days (or longer) that the park really deserves. Still, I knew I needed to see the place, even if briefly. The only way I could do it was to arrange for a red-eye (overnight) flight home and go to Yosemite from San Francisco as a day trip on my last day. I got up at 5:30 am, drove to Yosemite, saw as much as I could, and then came back to catch a 10:30 pm flight. It was a very long day, to say the least! As a photographer, being granted a few hours at Yosemite is like being a kid let loose in a candy shop and told you can have all you want -- but you only get 10 seconds to collect it! To some extent I felt that I had only been "teased", but even in the small amount of time I was there, I fell in love with the place. I hope someday soon to return to Yosemite and spend more time there. In the meantime, this SceneSet helps me relive my visit, and enjoy again the majesty and wonder of Yosemite National Park. My interest in panoramas was very helpful at the park, allowing me to capture wide vistas that go beyond the more typical views usually captured from the common Yosemite valley viewpoints. I have also included a couple of shots from the area near Yosemite, which I photographed as the day was both beginning and ending. I hope you like it.
