I want my customers to be not merely satisfied, but
delighted. You should have no difficulties at all using your Desktop SceneSets, but if you do have problems I will do whatever I can to
be of assistance.
First, I would ask you to please look through the
following list of common support problems and solutions. This will allow you
to quickly resolve most issues yourself, saving us both time. They have
been organized into three sections so you can find your problem more easily.
Note that this page deals only with problems you may
encounter with your SceneSets. Please refer to the FAQ
for answers to "non-problem" issues related to ordering, payment and so
forth.
Please check out the tips on the page
devoted to the free online SceneSet galleries if you need help with
them.
TIP: Many of the instructions
below require that you adjust your display or screen saver settings. To
access display settings, click "Start" and
then "Control Panel" (Windows XP) or "Start", then "Settings" and then
"Control Panel" (Windows 98, ME and 2000). Then double-click the "Display" icon,
and click the appropriate tab (usually "Settings" or "Screen Saver").
General Issues
- I am getting an error trying to download my
SceneSets / My SceneSet download links have expired. This should not
happen under normal circumstsances. If you need to download the
SceneSets again, please contact me using the support address at the
bottom of this page.
- I get an error when I try to run a SceneSet.
This is most likely due to a file corruption problem. Please try
re-downloading the SceneSet and then running it again. If the problem
persists, contact me using the support address at the bottom of this
page.
- When I run a SceneSet nothing happens. Running
a SceneSet should bring up a dialog box with four options: "Install",
"Run", "Tips" and "Cancel". If you select "Run" the SceneSet will start
to display but if you move the mouse it will immediately turn off, so it may appear
that nothing happened. Just try running it again.
- I installed a SceneSet as my current screensaver
but can't turn it off now. Open
the display settings as described above, click the "Screen Saver" tab, and
change the current screensaver to whatever you wish.
- Transitions from one image to the next are very
slow. Some of the transition effects in the SceneSet software are
very processor-intensive and will greatly slow down the change between
images. Try selecting different transition effects by opening display
settings, clicking "Screen Saver", and then choosing "Settings" with the
SceneSet selected. You can also increase the transition speed there. On very slow machines, you may wish to disable
transitions entirely..
Image Display and Quality Issues
Please see the Display section
of the System Requirements page for a full discussion of display
resolution and other quality issues.
- The images in the SceneSet look blurry. The
SceneSet images have been carefully processed, which includes sharpening
for display, so they should appear quite "crisp". For best quality, they
should be run at their native resolution (1024x768). If you
are running on a larger display such as 1400x1050 or 1600x1200, the
images will be scaled up to fit your monitor, resulting in a slight
blurring of the images. You can turn this off by
opening display setting, clicking "Screen Saver", and then choosing
"Settings" with the SceneSet selected. Remove the checkmark next to
"Enlarge Photo to Fit Screen" and select "OK".
- The images in the SceneSet are too small and don't
fill the screen. This means you are running a SceneSet with a lower
resolution than your display with photo enlargement disabled. To turn it
on, open display settings as described in the "Tip" above, click "Screen
Saver", and then choosing "Settings" with the SceneSet selected. Click
the box next to "Enlarge Photo to Fit Screen" to put a checkmark in it,
and select "OK".
- The SceneSet images appear too bright / too dark.
This usually means the brightness and/or contrast settings of your
monitor are set incorrectly. Please refer to the calibration information
(and calibration chart) near the bottom of the
System Requirements page.
- I changed the settings for my SceneSet in the
Control Panel, but when I execute it and click "Run" none of the changes
take effect. When you install a SceneSet as your screensaver, any
changes you make to that screensaver's settings only affect operation as
a screensaver. You cannot change the settings of the SceneSet when you
just run it directly. Unfortunately I can't do anything about this.
Operation and Features
When you install a SceneSet as your Windows screensaver,
you get access to a number of settings that let you customize how your
images are displayed. To access these controls, open your Windows display settings as described in the "Tip" above, click "Screen
Saver", and then choosing "Settings" with the SceneSet selected.
From within this dialog box you can do any of the following:
- Uninstall the SceneSet. Click the "Uninstall"
button, then say "Yes" to confirm.
- Change how long photos are displayed. Change
the number in the "Photo Interval Time (sec)" box, then select "OK".
- Enable/disable random photo display.
Select/deselect the box next to "Display Photos in Random Order", then
click "OK".
- Enable/disable photo enlargement.
Select/deselect the box next to "Enlarge Photo to Fit Screen", then
click "OK".
- Enable/disable photo captions. Each photo has
a short text title/description. These are disabled by default but can be
enabled by selecting the box next to "Enable Static Captions", then
clicking "OK".
- Enable/disable transitions. Select/deselect
the box next to "Enable Photo Transition Effect", then click "OK".
- Change transition effects. Place a checkmark
in the box next to each transition you want, then click "OK".
- Change transition speed. Slide the "Transition
Speed" bar to the left to slow down transitions, to the right to speed
them up. Then, you got it... click "OK". :)
