Online SceneSet Galleries

All of the images here at DesktopScenes.com are also organized into online galleries that you can view at your leisure, in your Web browser, for free. You will likely enjoy looking at these photographs and reading the descriptions I have given to each, which explain a bit about what you are looking at, or something about my motivation in taking the image. This will also help you decide if you want to license one of the full SceneSets for use on your own PC.

The pictures in the online SceneSet galleries are identical to the ones in the actual SceneSets, and all images are included. The only difference is that the online images are smaller, to better suit Web browsing.

There are in fact two ways to view the galleries here:

  • Flash SceneSet Viewer: This is a slick Flash-based gallery viewer with lots of cool features. It allows you to seamlessly move between images and SceneSets, enable a slideshow, and even leave guest comments. It also features several full-length tracks of excellent background music, courtesy of renowned World Music group Ancient Future. I recommend using this viewer if possible.
  • Non-Flash (HTML) SceneSet Viewer: I know that some people don't have Flash installed (and others just hate it) so I also have a SceneSet gallery viewer made with regular HTML pages. It is not as fancy as the Flash viewer but is an option for those of you who don't like Flash.

If you need help with using either of these viewing methods, please see the sections that follow.

Finally, a reminder: the images are yours to enjoy on the Web pages, but are not in the public domain and may not be used for any commercial or other purpose without my written permission. If you see any images you want to use for whatever reason, please feel free to contact me and we can discuss it. Thanks!

Tips for Using the Flash SceneSet Viewer

The Flash-based player is pretty much self-explanatory: use the next and previous buttons to move between pictures in a SceneSet, or press the "play" button (like the one on a CD player) to start the slideshow. You can also scroll through the thumbnails and click any of them to load that image.

If you need help on what the various buttons do, click the question mark icon ("?") and a help window will pop up. Here are a few specific tips:

  • If you click the icon on the far left of the command bar (it looks like it has 6 rectangles in it) you can move from the current SceneSet to any other.
  • If you move the mouse over the currently-displayed photograph, and overlay will appear with the name of the photo and a text description. Move the mouse back off the photo to remove the overlay.
  • You can turn on or off the music by clicking the "dancing music bars" to bring up audio controls, including start, stop, next and previous track. There are 6 tracks of music.

If you still have more questions that have not been answered, please feel free to contact me.

Tips for Using the Regular HTML SceneSet Viewer

The other SceneSet viewer is based on regular Web (HTML) pages and is even more self-explanatory than the Flash player. :) From the main page, just select the SceneSet you wish to view. This will take you to a page showing thumbnails of the various images; larger sets will have multiple pages of thumbnails you can scroll through. Click on any thumbnail to load the image with description.

The image display page includes navigation buttons at the top left, and a preview of adjacent image thumbnails at the top right. You can use these to move between image pages, or click the "SLIDE" button to start a slideshow.

Here are a few tips specific to this viewer:

  • At the far top left you will see navigation text; click the name of the SceneSet to return to the thumbnail pages, or "DesktopScenes.com" to return to the SceneSet selection page.
  • You can navigate by clicking on the image itself. If you click on the left third of the image, you go back one page; if you click on the right third, you go forward; and if you click in the middle you return to the thumbnail display page.
  • You can also move through images using keyboard shortcuts. To display these, click the "?" button below and to the right of the image. (Click it again to remove the popup instructions.)

Again, if you still have more questions that have not been answered, please feel free to contact me. Happy viewing!
